Should I keep selling or block checkout while I'm away?
Choose keep selling if you're happy to take orders and ship them when you're back. Choose block checkout if you don't want any orders at all. You pick the mode for each closure, under Orders while closed.
Keep selling
In the closure editor this is Keep selling and show when orders will ship. Shoppers can buy as normal. We tell them when their order will ship:
- Banner: "We're on a break. Orders placed now ship from {dispatch_date}."
- Product page: "Ships from {dispatch_date}"
- Cart: "Your order will ship from {dispatch_date}."
- Checkout: each shipping option gets " — dispatched from {dispatch_date}" added to its name.
- Thank-you and order status pages: "Thanks! We're away, so this ships from {dispatch_date}."
Block checkout
In the closure editor this is Block checkout (shoppers can still browse). Shoppers can still browse and add to cart, but they can't complete checkout:
- Banner: "We're closed until {reopen_date}. You can browse, but checkout reopens then."
- Product page: "Available to order from {reopen_date}"
- Cart: "Checkout reopens on {reopen_date}."
- Checkout: stopped with the message "We're closed until {reopen_date}, so we can't take orders right now. Please remove items that can't be ordered yet, or come back after we reopen." This includes Shop Pay, Apple Pay, Google Pay and PayPal express buttons.
Good to know
- Products you've kept open can still be bought in block mode.
- If a cart mixes open and closed items, checkout is blocked. The message asks the shopper to remove the closed items or come back after you reopen.
- The wording above is our default. You can change it for one closure in the closure editor, or for every closure in Appearance & languages. The text added to shipping names can't be changed.
- To change the mode, open the closure, change Orders while closed and click Save.
